Like many of the notable and lovely homes poised on the shores of the Queen of American Lakes for nearly a century, The Boathouse Waterfront Lodging in Bolton Landing, NY has a story to tell. This home wasn’t always an adult-only Lake George hotel. Owner George Reis had spent his childhood summers in Bolton Landing where his love of the lake and the area took root during vacations at the Sagamore Hotel. When the Sagamore was destroyed by fire in 1914, his family purchased the nearby property where Mr. Reis resided.
George Reis was a gold cup recipient in the sport of speed boat racing. His boat “The El Lagarto” was the only one ever to win the Gold Cup three successive times and set a record-breaking speed of 72.73 miles per hour. He had a lifelong love affair with Lake George and spent his life here until his death in 1962.
